The traditional method of fencing a site was done with the Datu and wood from the palu di sia. In the western part of the island some of these fences, called ‘tranké’ in Papiamento, can still be seen. This method of fencing was used both to keep livestock indoors and to keep livestock outdoors. There has recently been renewed interest in this ‘green’ method of inheritance.
