This tree top can reach a diameter of up to 20 meters! This tree, sometimes with spines, is often confused with the Dividivi, but clearly has different fruits. Traditionally, cooking in Curaçao was done with charcoal from the Indju tree. This charcoal burns slowly and gives dishes a smoky flavor that is especially appreciated when grilling. The yellow pods of the tree are edible.
